Meet the Coach |
Wayne and his wife, Terri, have four children; Jessica, Tyler, Dominique and Alexandra. He is also a Grandfather to Jessica’s son, Jaedyn, and daughter, Jazlyn. They currently reside in Issaquah, Washington. "Nothing gives me more satisfaction than helping to develop the individual skills of players. I have such a passion to help players realize their dreams. It is so exciting to see players doing things that they have never done or been able to do. Just the fact that they are coming to me shows a commitment on their part to get better and that kicks in my competitive juices to help them achieve their goals. What I offer (and ask of) any player who calls on me, desiring help is: · I demand excellence · I push you to your fullest potential · I encourage you never to give up · I teach you sportsmanship · I teach you humility along with confidence and success · I will instruct you in the fundamentals of the game, especially Quick Handle through repetition, discipline and proper technique · I teach mental toughness" |

Coach’s Bio |
Coach Mendo has recently finished his 11th year as College Head College Coach and resides in Issaquah, Washington. Coach is currently coaching professionally in the country of Bahrain. This is his 7th year as a professional overseas coach. QUICK HANDLE: Coach Mendo had a dream to start Quick Handle Basketball after completing his 4 year career as a player in the European Professional League. He wanted to create a system that could provide the framework to allow players to play beyond their capabilities and also achieve successful results in their game. Since Coach Mendo never attended a basketball camp growing up as a kid, it was his goal to create an opportunity where players of all ages, who were very serious about their game, could have the opportunity to compete at a high level, with intense, quality instruction-style of basketball training program. Quick Handle was launched in 1994 with the completion of his first book, “Quick Handle: Single Handed Ball Control.” For the past 14years Coach Mendezona has conducted what many consider the best ball handling, and moves off the dribble camp in the world. The camps have been a raving success extending beyond Washington to Oregon, Nevada, California, Missouri, Arkansas and Iowa. But Quick Handle’s influence extends worldwide as Coach Mendo has instructed players in a number of additional states and countries with the revolutionary drills and techniques through clinics, camps, and group training sessions. Coach Mendo made a decision in 2004 to step out of college coaching for a year to focus his attention on building the Quick Handle Basketball program and developing the youth. Coach Mendo created a fall, winter and spring academy based on the philosophy of Developing the Complete Player through a one of a kind skills program named Superior Skills Development Program SSD. Quick Handle has further incorporated a non-profit AAU Program called Virtually Unstoppable. This popular program is flexible, consisting in any given year of up to 10-14 teams, both boys and girls, with Elite High School boys and girls teams. Our Virtually Unstoppable teams are unique in that our highly trained coaches focus more on playing the right way and skill development training over just competing in tournaments and developing bad habits. Coach Mendo has continued his publications by following up with three additional books; “The Total Point Guard”, “Box ‘D’ One on One”, and “Game Time”. He has also produced three DVDs; “Quick Handle Advantage”, “Quick Trigger Shooting” and “Killer Crossover” DVDs. Coach Mendo plans to expand his scope of basketball training to include more DVDs, books and training manuals for coaches and players in the future. PLAYING CAREER: Coach Mendo played High School basketball at Reed High in Sparks, Nevada. He led his team in scoring and was selected as an All-district and All Tournament first team player. He capped a successful High School career receiving MVP honors in the State Kiwanis All Star game. Coach Mendo played 4 years of college basketball; 2 years at Umpqua Community College and 2 years at Judson Baptist College where he excelled as a scoring point guard receiving numerous team, conference and National player honor awards. He then accepted the opportunity to play over seas in the European Pro Leagues which he competed for 4 years; 3 years in Germany and 1 in Austria. Coach Mendo averaged 38 points a game over that 4 year period. Coach Mendo’s success as a player was predicated with his quickness and ability to create moves off the dribble and to utilize a quick shooting release to help him achieve success as a player. He has taken these techniques and incorporated them into the Quick Handle program where well over 15,000 players of all ages and skill levels have been instructed over the past 20 plus years. COACHING CAREER: Coached Mendezona has had the privilege of coaching for 26 years in a variety of capacities as a Player Coach, Youth, AAU, High School, College Assistant, Head College and Head Overseas Coach. This diversity has allowed Coach Mendo to succeed at numerous levels, and relate to every type of athlete. Coach Mendo started his collegiate coaching career as an assistant at Tennessee Temple University along side head coach Tim Collins. They amassed over 75 wins in 3 years and two National Division I Christian College Championships. Coach Mendo then got a head job in the professional leagues in the Middle East where he coached for 4 years in Bahrain and 2 years in Kuwait. He won two youth National Championships and helped propel losing teams to a place where they could compete as one of the better teams in their respective leagues. These coaching rebuilding opportunities that Coach Mendo was successful in gave him the great opportunity of being selected as the National Coach of Bahrain for two years. One of the highlights of his career was to coach the Bahrain National team in the Asian championship which was the Barcelona qualifier. Coach Mendo coached the Bahrain team to a phenomenal 5-5 record in one of the best performances in the history of Bahrain basketball. He was selected for a second year where he led the Bahrain National Team to a Bronze medal finish at the Gulf Championships. Coach Mendo began his college head coaching career at Northwest University in Kirkland, Washington where he was there for 4 years. Coach Mendo was instrumental in the planning, developing, and implementing stages of a scholarship program which provided the foundation for Northwest University athletic programs to compete on a level playing field and enjoy success. Coach Mendo had two- 20 win seasons at Northwest University and his teams qualified each year for NAIA post season play, including the first team to win an NAIA playoff game. One of his teams received a top 25 NAIA National ranking and competed in the National Christian College Tournament. Coach Mendo also coached at Simpson University, which is a NAIA program in the California Pacific Conference (Cal Pac). Simpson University was another unique challenge for Coach Mendo’s abilities in rebuilding and strengthening weaker programs. Simpson University was a non-scholarship University and Coach Mendo’s challenge was to help the program become respectable and successful. Coach Mendo built a competitive team with the highlight being a 21 win season. This was one of a number of school records that his teams produced. Other records were the most wins for a Simpson University men’s team in the Cal Pac Conference and a third place finish at the NCCAA Division II National Championship. In 2008 Coach Mendo completed a 3 year reign as the head men’s basketball coach at Portland Community College. In his first year, the PCC Panthers produced the 2nd best team in the history of Panther basketball. Major accomplishments include victories against a few NWAACC ranked teams. For the 2008-09 season Coach Mendo has taken on the challenge of coaching professionally overseas in the country of Bahrain. He is currently the head coach of Muharraq Club and is attempting to lead this team to a second straight National Championship. The expectations are high and the challenge to win the championship again is in the light of losing 2 key veteran players to other clubs and the devastating loss of 2 of the team’s top youth players to injuries. Like every challenge Coach Mendo has faced, he will do his best to help this club reach this high pinnacle of success.
