Eagles Move Up to No. 9 in NAIA Poll

The NU Eagles, winners over Evergreen in their only game of the weekend, moved up one spot from No. 10 to No. 9 in this week’s NAIA national poll released Monday by the national office in Kansas City, MO. This is the 10th week Northwest U. has been in the Top 25 and makes it 23 weeks the Eagles have been ranked which includes 13 straight weeks in last year’s weekly poll.

The Eagles are right below No. 8 Jamestown (N.D.), 24-5, who moved up from the No. 9 spot and right above Indiana Wesleyan, 20-10, who climbed from the No. 14 spot to the No. 10 spot over the weekend.

Oregon Tech dropped out of the No. 1 position after suffering a season ending loss to Corban on Saturday night while Warner Pacific fell from the No. 12 spot to No. 15 after being defeated by Eastern Oregon in LaGrande on Friday night. Eastern Oregon received votes this week a sits at the No. 28 spot, just out of the Top 25. Corban, the hottest team in the CCC right now, received votes and is 39th in the NAIA poll.

The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences and independents. The final regular-season Division II Men’s Basketball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll will be announced on Feb. 29.

At the conclusion of conference tournaments on Feb. 28, the 32-team national championship field will be announced on Feb. 29. In addition, the bracket for the 21st annual Division II Women’s Basketball National Championship will be released. To track complete results from all 14 league tournaments, click here.

The pairings and seeding for the Cascade Conference post season tournament have been set and the Eagle women will be traveling to LaGrande, Ore., and the NU men will be hosting a first round game.

Coach Lori Napier‘s women earned the #6 seed in the CCC playoffs and will be playing #3 seed Eastern Oregon in LaGrande on Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. The game will be carried live on the web and live statistics will be available. This will be the third meeting between the Eagles and the Mountaineers and NU has lost both games by a total of 6 points. In the first meeting in Kirkland, EOU edged NU 74-70 in overtime. In their next game in LaGrande, the Mounties edged the Eagles again by a narrow 76-74 margin in regulation.

In the men’s game, CCC co-champion NU will face Concordia, a team they have swept in the regular season. The Eagles defeated CU in Portland 75-65 on January 7 and then beat the Cavalilers again in the NU Pavilion on  February 3, 82-74. Northwest is the #2 seed heading into the playoffs and Concordia comes in as the #7 seed.

Admission Prices:

For the NU men’s game on Wednesday night, the first 50 students who get to game by 6:45 will get in free. After 6:45 everyone pays.

$5 – Adult, $2 – All students, and $1 – 12 and under. There is no senior rate just $5.

* There will be no pass list(s) for the CCC playoffs.
